Source: Yonhap News Date: October 13, 2025 Original article: https://www.yna.co.kr/view/AKR20251013046300017 The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Korea Industrial Technology Association announced on October 13 that Jinseung Lim, Team Leader of the EV Powertrain Design Team 1 at Hyundai Motor Company, and Jaejun Lee, CEO of Connected Insight, had been selected as the recipients of the October 2025 Korea Engineering Award. Lim developed technologies to reduce the thickness of the electrical steel sheets used in EV motor cores, as well as cooling technologies designed to overcome the challenges caused by centrifugal forces at high rotational speeds. His work contributed to the development of EV motor systems with world-class efficiency and performance. Lee developed a dedicated Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) system for solar cells entirely with proprietary Korean technology. His work covered the entire development process, from equipment design and manufacturing to the development of deep-learning-based software. As a result, Connected Insight achieved an inspection speed 120% higher than that of overseas competitors while reducing costs by 300%. The Korea Engineering Award was established to encourage technological innovation in industry and promote greater recognition of engineers and their contributions. Each month, one engineer from a large corporation and one from a small or medium-sized company are selected to receive the Minister of Science and ICT Award, along with a prize of KRW 5 million.
